Dr. Herkert is originally from Marshfield, WI; hence the Green Bay Packer décor at Herkert Family Eye Care. He received his undergraduate Biology degree from the University of WI-Eau Claire and his Doctor of Optometry from Indiana University in 1991. After working several years at an ophthalmology clinic here in Indiana, he realized that the way to provide the best eye care for his patients was to open his own practice. Since 1998, Herkert Family Eye Care and Dr. Herkert have been helping people on the southside and the Indianapolis area see their best.
Optometry gives me the opportunity to restore and improve one of our most important senses, sight. I enjoy working with children who are getting their first pair of glasses, someone trying contacts for the first time, and helping someone after having cataract surgery.
The best part of my day at the office is working with my patients, both new and existing, and finding out what’s new in their lives. Taking care of their eyes is important. I also like learning about their interests and how I may benefit them.
In my spare time, I like to stay active. I like to golf, hike, fish, and camp. However, as I get older, I see there is beauty in finding time to just sit and do nothing; and, if I can incorporate a campfire with it, all the better.
